Artists catalogue and paper samples
Timeless Paper is the fourth biennial book, associated with the Holland Paper Biennial of 2002. This bi-lingual edition also starts with a presentation of artists who took part in the biennial, their profiles, images of their work and samples taken from the very paper which they use to create their products.
The theme of 'time and timelessness' is particularly emphasized in the articles, with essays about the history of text by prof. Fabrizio Pennachetti and the use of papyrus over the centuries by Maureen and Brian Richardson, including instructions on how to make it yourself. Henk Porck, head of the ' Paper Historical Collection' of the Royal Library researches the reliability of artificial paper-ageing tests. Henk Voorn writes about the first American papermaker whose ancestors originated from the Netherlands and Germany. Furthermore, this edition contains articles about the fibre structure of paper, Javanese wajang-puppets made from dluwang, books with moving (pop-up) parts, and the making of watermarks with the help of silk-screen techniques. This edition's foreword is written by Albert Ellen, chairman of the International Association of Paper Historians (IPH).
The paper samples of the 15 artists participating are attached to the catalogue section of this edition using punch-cut tabs. There are also three-dimensional images in the book which can be viewed using the 3D glasses attached.
Timeless Paper was nominated for the Dutch Design Prize, 2002.
