Artists catalogue and paper samples
For the first time in the history of the Biennial book series - published every two years since 1996, we set out to find the real source on which papermakers and paper producers draw to create their end products. The reader is presented with a succession of insights into the way paper comes into existence in this search for the origin of paper; how nature provides a source of inspiration for papermakers; a peak in the kitchen where the artist is at work and a journey through the world's last surviving traditional rural papermaking communities. And naturally, at a time when sustainability has still to gain a firm foothold, the future of paper must not be overlooked.

The publication of 'Pure Paper' marks the Holland Paper Biennial 2008, an international exposition of paper art on show from June to September in CODA/ Museum Apeldoorn and Museum Rijswijk. This book contains a complete catalogue of all the exhibiting artists as well as a selection of paper samples some of the artists use in their work. Each artist explains why he or she finds inspiration in paper.
